Police officers recovered more than $38k worth of stolen Lululemon clothing after a duo allegedly shoplifted 440 items.
A 35-year-old woman and a 34-year-old man were arrested on charges of theft by taking and conspiracy to commit a crime on February 8.
The Atlanta Police Department was alerted to alleged shoplifters shortly after 4pm at the Lululemon store on Howell Mill Road.
Staff told police they had seen a woman in grey allegedly stealing several items from the store.
When officers arrived, the woman slipped out the front door without anyone noticing.
Police caught up with her after a brief foot chase and arrested her nearby, as shown in police body camera footage.
Soon after, officers spotted a “suspicious vehicle” speeding out of the Lululemon store parking lot.
Body camera footage shows an officer getting into his patrol car and pursuing the vehicle, eventually tracking it to a nearby lot, where the driver was arrested without incident.
A search of the suspect vehicle revealed numerous Lululemon clothing items – most still with price tags and hangers attached.
Officers also found a shopping bag lined with a foil-like material, commonly used by shoplifters to bypass theft detection systems, said police.
The stolen clothing, totaling 440 items, was returned to the Lululemon store.
An itemized receipt showed the total value of the goods at $38,709.59.
The female suspect, 35, was charged with theft by taking, conspiracy to commit a crime, and obstruction of law enforcement.
The male suspect, 34, was charged with theft by taking, conspiracy to commit a crime, improper lane change, failure to obey a traffic control device, fleeing and eluding, driving with an expired license, possession of drug-related objects, and possession of marijuana.
Both suspects were taken to the Fulton County Jail for processing.
